A teaching nonprofit aimed at applicability, the theory of learning, and changing the way students think about STEM.
Our course material is has real world applications that are hot topics among technology today. Instead of telling our students what we teach them is important, we show them.
Each subject we teach is not typically taught to our target age group. But we think these topics are introduced too late to have a meaningful impact for students, so we introduce them early.
We teach students to use STEM as a playground: you first climb the ladder before you go down the slide: learning is fun because of the work you put into it, not despite it.
All classes run for around 1 hour per session.
Depending on the class topic, classes can meet once to twice per week. Math classes run twice a week, whereas Computer Science and Natural Science classes tend to meet once a week. All meeting details are under the course descriptions.
Our teaching range is from 4th to 8th grade, but the recommended age for classes is under the course description.
sySTEM Playground is not free. There is a down payment for a class per semester of 25 dollars, and if the student attends every class without unexcused absences, they will receive 20 of those dollars back. The other 5 go directly to our donations and are used to make sySTEM Playground's courses better.
